Rachel Smith, Chair, Board Term 2024-2027

Rachel is originally from Philadelphia and has lived in the area since 2013. Rachel worked at Penland School of Craft for 7 years (part of that time in the local schools) and now works full time from home with HMP Global. She has a daughter who attends SPMS.

Courtney Dodd, Vice Chair, Board Term 2023-2026

Courtney is originally from Missouri and has lived in the area since 2005. She is a glassblower and works as the Programs Manager at Penland School of Craft. She has a daughter who attends SPMS.

Carol Golightly, Treasurer/Secretary, Board Term 2025-2028

Carol is treasurer of the SPMS Board of Directors, and her daughter is a student at SPMS. She received a B.A. in storytelling with a minor in mathematics from New York University. Carol has worked for more than 15 years in marketing communications, currently working remotely for a public relations agency based in New York City. She has previously worked in schools through America Reads/America Counts and as a volunteer coach with Girls on the Run.

Beth Jenkins, Member, Board Term 2022-2025; 2025-2028

Beth is a certified school counselor and 6-9 credentialed Montessori teacher who relocated to Mitchell County in 2021. She divides her time between NC and FL, where she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.

Noah Sedberry, Member, Board Term 2026 - 2029

Noah was born and raised in WNC and attended SPMS as a child. He has a BAAS in Human Services from Lees-McRae College and currently works for the Yancey County Department of Social Services in foster care and permanency planning He has worked in a domestic violence shelter as community outreach and prevention educator and the director of social services at a skilled nursing facility.
