Nestled in downtown Spruce Pine, Spruce Pine Montessori School serves families from four counties. Our region of western North Carolina boasts mountain beauty, lush flora and fauna, and a rich cultural history. Partnerships with parents, volunteers, local businesses, and a diverse group of local artists and craftspeople make Spruce Pine Montessori a stronger and better school. Our community is who we are and where we started; it is our foundation and our future.
Parents are an essential component in the Montessori approach to education, which we see as a partnership involving the children, the parents, and the teaching staff. This partnership creates an investment in each child’s future.
Our parents have literally built the school, from its initial conception to the construction of its walls, materials, furniture and outdoor spaces, all on a volunteer basis. Parents donate time as classroom aides, field trip drivers, at special workdays and fundraising events, on committees, and much more. Art and Spanish are taught by parents; cooking classes, table manners, gardening, and animal care are all parental contributions. Our rummage sales and annual auction are successful because of every parent that donates his or her time.
